The Boothbay Region Water District maintains and supplies water to 181 fire hydrants, 132 hydrants in Boothbay Harbor and 49 hydrants in Boothbay.

Our on-going hydrant replacement policy mandates 5 hydrants are replaced each year.

30% of our operating funds are derived from hydrant fees assessed to the surrounding towns.

The hydrant rate is derived from the pro-forma year used to calculate all water rates.

Maine State law states that no more than 30% of the District operating expense for the pro-forma year can be derived from public fire protection hydrant rates.

Quarterly meetings are held with the local fire chiefs to communicate ideas and concerns.

The local fire departments are not charged for water use at their stations if used for fire protection training or maintenance of vehicles.
